it just makes me mad

i noticed that i haven't been reading trashy novels for a while, so i bought a book called Manhunt by Janet Evanovich. It was on 20% off and the cover looked pretty and the synopsis looked

okay. so i thought that it couldn't hurt to read it.

what i didn't count on was getting mad at the book. or rather, the writer.

she wrote the way all romance novelists write up their 'leading men'. Broad shoulders, tapered waist, flat and hard stomach, golden skin and defined muscles. Not only that, they have a great personality - funny, chivalrous, etc etc.

I'm sorry, but in WHAT WORLD DO THESE MEN EXIST?

Because I haven't met ANY man like that who isn't gay.(AHEM!) And truth be told, even the gay men now aren't all that.

So anyway, I got mad because all these writers were building up false expectations for men. I mean, without fail, the guys in the books will ALWAYS get the girls they want.

And then I get depressed after reading books like these because those things never happen to me. Instead I fall for idiots or bastards and the only people who like me are weirdos.

What??! broad shoulders?

tapered waist??

flat and hard stomach???!

golden skin and defined muscles?!

the humour?

The chivalry?

I think life has shortchanged me. hmph.

But I guess this is why these books are listed in the fiction section.
